Publication Ethics & Editorial Policy

The American Journal of Science and Medical Research (AJSMR) follows the Best Practice Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and this policy should be read together with the journal's Peer Review Policy and Author Guidelines.

Duties of the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Team

• Publication Decisions: The Editor-in-Chief (Dr. M. Praveen Kumar, Ph.D.) holds final responsibility for deciding which submitted articles are published, guided by the editorial board's policies and applicable legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Decisions are made in consultation with reviewers and editorial board members.
• Fair Play: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual and scientific merit, without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnicity, citizenship, or political views.
• Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff do not disclose information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate. The double-blind review process is strictly maintained — reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors, and vice versa.
• Conflicts of Interest: Unpublished material or data disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by an editor, reviewer, or any other party with access to it, for their own research purposes, without the express written consent of the author.
• Handling Editors' Own Submissions: In accordance with COPE recommendations, if an editor is an author on a submitted manuscript, that submission is reassigned to another member of the editorial board or a guest editor to avoid a conflict of interest.

Duties of Authors

• Originality: Authors must submit only original work. Manuscripts must not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere, in any form or language.
• Data Accuracy and Authenticity: Authors are solely responsible for the authenticity of cited literature and the accuracy of the data reported. Fabrication or falsification of data constitutes serious misconduct.
• Authorship: The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed co-authors have agreed to the content of the manuscript and its submission to AJSMR.
• Research Involving Animals: Where experiments involving animals have been conducted, authors must include a certification statement confirming that the experiments were carried out in accordance with the guidelines and regulations of the relevant institutional/national committee, consistent with internationally accepted principles of laboratory animal use and care.
• Plagiarism: All submissions may be checked for plagiarism as part of the editorial evaluation process (see the journal's Plagiarism & Research Integrity Policy).
• Disclosure: Authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that might be construed as influencing the results or interpretation of their manuscript.

Duties of Reviewers

• Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists the Editor-in-Chief in making informed publication decisions, and the review process also helps authors improve the quality of their manuscript.
• Promptness: A reviewer who feels unqualified to review a manuscript, or who cannot complete the review within the requested timeframe, should notify the Editor-in-Chief promptly and withdraw from the review process.
• Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shown to, or discussed with, others, except as authorized by the Editor-in-Chief.
• Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively and supported by clear, constructive arguments. Personal criticism of the author is not acceptable. Reviewers should clearly express their views on the manuscript with appropriate supporting evidence.

Handling of Misconduct

Allegations of research or publication misconduct — including but not limited to plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate submission, or undisclosed conflicts of interest — will be investigated by the editorial office in line with COPE guidelines. Depending on the findings, this may result in rejection of the manuscript, a formal correction, retraction of a published article, or notification to the authors' institution.
