Metabolic effects of protease inhibitors in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients

Abstract:

The present study focuses on the prevalence and characteristics of the metabolic syndrome in HIV-infected patients and possible related factors, including individual antiretroviral drug exposure. A cross-sectional study was carried out on 720 HIV-infected patients managed at the outpatient Infectious Disease Unit of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, over a period of 1 year, from September through August 2007.
